Virtue Diagnostics Indonesia Doubles Down on Local Production and Diversifies Molecular Offerings
Amid the pressures facing the national medical device industry, PT Virtue Diagnostics Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) manufacturing ecosystem in Indonesia — demonstrating how global investment and local manufacturing capability can move forward hand in hand to support the resilience of the national health system.
The commitment was conveyed during the Industrial Symposium series at the INDOHEALTHCARE GAKESLAB Expo 2026. At the press conference, Mr. Johnson Zhang, Founder and Global CEO of Virtue Diagnostics, and Dr. Kurniasari Endah, M.M., Associate Commercial Director of PT Virtue Diagnostics Indonesia, outlined how the company is navigating market pressures while scaling up local production and expanding its product portfolio.
The Challenge: A Tough Market for a New Entrant
According to Dr. Kurniasari Endah, global economic conditions, shifting market dynamics, and declining government spending on medical devices have placed considerable pressure on the national IVD industry.
Why Virtue Diagnostics Builds, Not Just Sells
Opening the discussion, Mr. Johnson Zhang explained that the company's decision to invest in Indonesia was grounded in the conviction that access to quality diagnostic services should be enjoyed by all Indonesians.
Guided by the philosophy "In the Region, for the Region," Virtue Diagnostics built a modern manufacturing facility spanning 12,200 square meters in Cikarang, with a production capacity of more than 1,000 diagnostic instruments per year and 6,000 liters of reagents per day. The facility was inaugurated by the Indonesian Minister of Health, Budi Gunawan Sadikin, in 2024.
Investing Through the Downturn: Molecular Diagnostics and Cartridge-Based Immunology
As part of its long-term commitment, Virtue Diagnostics has this year increased its investment in Indonesia by developing a new product line — molecular diagnostics — and launching cartridge-based immunology technology to complete its existing product portfolio. This strategic expansion reflects the company's confidence in Indonesia's healthcare potential and its dedication to delivering a more complete diagnostic ecosystem.
Winning the Private Sector with Quality and Service
Rather than depending on a single market segment, PT Virtue Diagnostics Indonesia chose to transform its strategy by strengthening penetration into the private sector — including hospitals, clinical laboratories, and other healthcare facilities. The company believes customer trust can only be built through product quality, sustained innovation, and professional, consistent after-sales service. That strategy is now beginning to show positive results.
By mid-2026, PT Virtue Diagnostics Indonesia had produced more than 150 diagnostic instruments and 31,000 reagent kits, now in use across hospitals and laboratories throughout Indonesia.
National Impact: 193 Products and Government Health Programs
To date, Virtue Diagnostics holds marketing authorization for 193 diagnostic products in Indonesia, reflecting a strong commitment to broadening access to high-quality, locally produced in vitro diagnostic solutions. Its flagship platforms — covering Immunology, Biochemistry, Hematology, and Molecular Diagnostics — have achieved a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of more than 40%, further reinforcing the company's role in supporting the self-reliance of Indonesia's health system and strengthening the domestic medical device industry.
These products support several government priority programs, including the Free Health Check Program (CKG), tuberculosis elimination by 2030, and cervical cancer screening through HPV testing.
According to Mr. Johnson Zhang, investment in high-technology diagnostic manufacturing is a long-term commitment that requires certainty in the industrial ecosystem — and Indonesia, he believes, has what it takes to become the region's manufacturing anchor.
ISO 13485: A Stamp of International Quality
The company's commitment to quality is reinforced by the successful attainment of ISO 13485 certification, the international standard for Medical Device Quality Management Systems. The certification ensures that every process — from development and production to quality control — is carried out to international standards, producing products that are safe, high-quality, and reliable in performance.
First Exports to the Philippines: From Local to Global
Beyond strengthening its domestic market position, PT Virtue Diagnostics Indonesia has also begun expanding into international markets through the export of VIRTUEDX-branded reagents and VERCENTRA diagnostic instruments to the Philippines. The success of these exports demonstrates that Indonesian-made diagnostic products hold competitive strength and are beginning to gain recognition in the global market.

The company will continue to expand investment in research and development, raise manufacturing capacity, bring forward the latest diagnostic innovations, and widen its distribution network both at home and abroad.
